The Saltzman House consists of a primary three-story structure and an adjoined guest house. It was designed as a private residence and clearly shows Meier’s interest in simple shapes and precise composition. The house is mainly constructed from white panels and glass, creating a bright and clean appearance. The building is composed of rectangular volumes arranged in a balanced composition. The white surfaces reflect natural light, which helps the building stand out against the surrounding trees and landscape. Meier often used white as a way to emphasise form and light rather than decoration. He explains that “from a distance, the cubic composition appears to flatten into a two-dimensional shape against the background of land and sky.” Large windows are another important feature of the house. They allow natural light to enter the interior spaces and provide views of the surrounding environment. Inside the Saltzman House, the design continues to focus on simplicity and openness. The interior spaces are arranged in a logical and organised way, with clear circulation between rooms. The minimal decoration and white surfaces create a calm and uncluttered atmosphere. Light plays an important role in shaping the interior experience, changing throughout the day as sunlight enters the house.
