The Barbican Estate is the finest achievement of the architects Chamberlin, Powell & Bon. It was Grade II-listed in 2001 in recognition of its extraordinary contribution to London’s urban landscape. All residents have access to communal gardens throughout the development. It was built during the 1960s and the 1970s in the City of London, in an area once devastated by world war II bombings and today densely populated by financial institutions. The Barbican complex is comprised of residential flats, and a world-renowned cultural centre, and it’s a prominent example of British Brutalist architecture.
